Schola Cantorum
Director: Mark Haas, M.F.A.
About This Ministry
The Schola Cantorum serves the sacred liturgy in a venerable musical form, offering chant and polyphony in faithful continuity with the Church’s tradition, as the Church teaches, “The treasury of sacred music is to be preserved and fostered with great care” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 114).

The Schola Cantorum is a 25-singer mixed ensemble of soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voices. It provides all the music for the Sunday 12:30 p.m. Latin Mass celebrated in the Extraordinary Form. The schola sings the complete musical texts of the liturgy, including the Mass Propers and Ordinary, Gregorian chant, and select sacred polyphony drawn from the Church’s rich repertoire.

There is no age requirement for membership; however, an audition is required to ensure musical readiness and the ability to sing chant and polyphony with precision and reverence. The schola rehearses on Thursdays from 7:30–8:45 p.m., focusing on chant interpretation, ensemble unity, and deep familiarity with the liturgical texts.

Through disciplined preparation and prayerful singing, the Schola Cantorum supports the solemn celebration of the Latin Mass, allowing the sacred music itself to become an integral expression of the Church’s worship and a conduit for contemplative prayer.
