Instrumentalists

Director: Mark Haas, M.F.A.

About This Ministry

The parish instruments enrich the sacred liturgy by supporting the sung prayer of the Church with beauty, dignity, and reverence. The Church affirms the value of sacred instruments when it teaches that “Musical instruments can be of great value in sacred celebrations, insofar as they are suitable for sacred use and contribute to the edification of the faithful” (Musicam Sacram, 62). In this spirit, the instruments exist not to perform, but to serve the liturgy by enhancing the voices of the faithful and the choir.

Our parish ensemble consists of violins, cellos, and woodwind instruments, carefully chosen for their ability to blend with the human voice and support sacred singing. The ensemble plays at every Sunday 10:00 a.m. Mass, providing musical support for both the Adult Choir and the Children’s Choir. Their presence adds depth and color to the choral repertoire while maintaining a prayerful and unified sound.

Because the ensemble does not hold weekly rehearsals, participating musicians must be at an intermediate to advanced level. Players prepare their music independently in advance and gather shortly before Mass for a brief rehearsal to coordinate balance, articulation, and ensemble unity.

Through disciplined preparation and attentive listening, the Parish Instrument Ensemble contributes to the solemnity of the liturgy, helping lift hearts and minds to God while remaining fully integrated into the Church’s sung prayer.
